What you understand depends on where you stand.

Vantage is a Philippine news and media company built on the idea contained in its name. We cover the issues the country is arguing about right now, and our work is to make those arguments legible: what is actually being proposed, who stands to gain or lose, and what has already been tried. We follow decisions from the offices where they are drafted to the communities where they land, in Metro Manila and well outside it. Being useful to our readers matters more to us than being first to publish.

We are working toward a Philippines where public life is conducted in front of an informed audience, where the people affected by a decision understand it well enough to question it. That means building a newsroom Filipinos return to out of habit rather than accident, and producing journalism that still holds up a year after it runs.

It also means treating our readers as participants rather than traffic: people with their own vantage points, whose questions shape what we pursue next.

Accuracy is our first obligation, and we would rather be late than wrong. We report independently, without deference to advertisers, political patrons, or the pressure of a trending topic. We stay close to the ground, because distance is how stories get flattened into abstractions. We show our work: naming sources where we safely can, explaining how we know what we know, and correcting errors openly and quickly rather than quietly. And we write plainly, on the conviction that anything worth reporting can be explained clearly to anyone willing to read it.
